Most Frequently Asked Questions on Why People Should Choose Gatwick Scuba For Their Training.

  • How much does it cost to learn to dive?
  • The cost of learning to dive is split into three costs. Firstly all divers must have a good understanding of what happens to us underwater so all students must complete PADI's Open Water pre study which cost £118.00 per person and comes in two formats (E-Learning for PC's or Touch-Learning for Tablets and Smart Phone Devises)
  • Once the students has completed the study they can attend a Referral course at our training facility in Surrey to have their lessons. This costs £89.00 for weekday events or £125.00 for Weekends. This includes all the Equipment required and we do not insist you buy anything, however owning your own Mask etc is benificial to ensure a good fit. The Referral course is performance based and must be passed to move onto the next stage. This can normally be done in one day however given that people learn in different ways and at differant speeds we do not charge if extra pool sessions are required. Click here for more details.
  • Once the student has passed the Referral course they can either take their completion form to any PADI dive resort world wide or do their Four Open Water Completion Dives with us here in the UK. With us the cost is £160.00 if you completed the Referral with us or £199.00 if you completed the first part else where. All our courses include all the equipment and PADI fees. Additional fee's may be required to enter certain dive sites. Click here for more details.
  • Why are your courses so much cheaper than your competitors?
  • Gatwick Scuba is one of only a few dedicated PADI training centres to own their own purpose built training facility with state of the art classrooms and purpose built heated training pool which enable us to reduce the costs to our clients as we don’t need to hire space in cold public swimming pools.
  • How easy is it to get to you?
  • By Car-Gatwick Scuba’s training facility is in Lingfield, Surrey with great links to the Southeast. We are 10 minutes from the M25 J6 using the A22 and 10 minutes from the M23 J9 using the A264.
  • By public transport we are connected to London via direct trains from London Victoria & London Bridge to Lingfield,(£24.00 approximately) the centre is then a short taxi ride usually costing £5.00.
  • How long does the course take?
  • As a dedicated PADI centre we offer several options the main one being a One Day course where you come and spend the whole day at our training facility completing all the required modules for the classroom and pool. This is known as a Referral Course. Once you have completed this you are ready to do your Four Open Water Qualifying dives which can be done with us here in the UK or at any PADI centre worldwide which must be done over two days.
  • Why do you only teach Open Water Dives in Drysuits and does it cost extra?
  • After many years of watching students struggle to get comfortable with the colder waters generally found in the UK we decided to ensure our students have the same level of warmth and comfort that the teaching staff experience. When you look at many of our competitors the students are given wetsuits while the staff all wear Drysuits. In our opinion that is an unacceptable double standard. We do not charge any extra for our students to use Drysuits and all of our school suits also come with dry gloves to keep your hands toasty warm as well.
  • Do I need to buy any equipment for any of the courses.
  • No you are not required to purchase any equipment to do a course with Gatwick Scuba as we provide everything needed. However it is recommended throughout the diving industry that all divers own their own basic equipment such as Mask, Fins, Snorkel and ideally a Dive Computer which can be purchased via our shop after your course.
  • Can I borrow my friends study materials or share materials with a family member or friend.
  • Sadly no, it is a PADI Standard (RULE) that every students has their own study material to ensure that they can not only study for the course but also refer back to their materials when there has been a gap since they last used their skills. At Gatwick Scuba we use PADI's latest training methods on all our course whether that is    e-Learning (PC Based) or Touch-Learning (Tablet/Smartphone).
